Why No Complete Metal Tonka Trucks?: Even though they are still called Metal or Steel Tonka trucks, Tonka trucks today are not completely made of metal like they use to be. Many truck features that used to be metal are now made of a heavy duty rugged type of plastic in order to adhere to modern safety standards in toys. Yes they still have a significant amount of steel and metal parts and features like the body and truck bed.
Personally I would love to see the original old metal trucks. However they say its not safe to make toys fully with metal like they used to be. So to satisfy modern safety standards in toys, Tonka trucks are today made with a combination of metal and heavy duty plastic which is equally durable as the old Tonka’s but more safer for kids.
Over the years Tonka branded toy trucks and vehicles were produced by a number of different companies and brands. Some that come to my mind recently are Funrise and Hasbro. Most of them were produced in large quantities and because of demand ever growing demand were soon sold out.

Tonka dump truck is the most famous Tonka truck. It was first introduced around 1965. It featured the Tonka first generation cab design, solid rubber wheels and a gas tank.
The Tonka dump truck is still one of the most popular toy trucks in the market. It’s current versions consist of the Tonka Toughest Mighty Dump truck which is a oversized dump truck and the Tonka Classic Dump truck which resembles the original Tonka dump truck sold several decades ago. Both of these current Dump trucks contain less metal and more rugged heavy duty plastic than the originals.
